Three new clubs to play in Valencia as Spanish Rugby League continues to expand

The AERL - Spanish Association of rugby league - has announced the addition of three new teams for the 2015-16 season in Valencia, bringing the total in the region to 10.

Búfals l'Horta, Olimpic Alaquàs and Paterna Dragons will join the seven existing clubs: Valencian Warriors (2013), Alcoià Comtat (2013), Irreductibles Mislata (2013), Ciencias XIII Valencia (2013), Edetans Montcada (2014), Almogàvers XIII (2014) and Tigers Torrent (2014), in a third year of expansion.

Valencian Warriors win Spanish Rugby League Cup Final

Date: 10/7/15

Valencian Warriors picked up their first silverware, defeating Irreductibles Mislata 32-12, in the second Spanish Cup final.

Warriors only led 12-8 at half time, three second half tries in 15 minutes seeing them home.

Centre Christian Domínguez crossed twice for the victors, Richi Perelló doing likewise for Irreductibles, who lost in the final for the second consecutive year.

First female rugby league match in Spain

Custodians Madrid and Getafe Rugby will contest the first women's rugby league match in Spain, today (14/6), in Madrid.

Miguel Angel Montoro, president of AERL Madrid commented, “it is an honour for Madrid to present the first female rugby league match in our country. The hard work of last months has paid off and now we have to enjoy this wonderful day.”

BARLA tour Spain in two match rugby league series

Date: 17/4/15

The growth of rugby league in Spain will be further supported by a visit from BARLA Youth to Valencia later this month for two matches against Spanish youth national teams.

The Spanish U23s will play the best from the British community clubs on 21 April, and the U21s will face the tourists two days later.
