The Hungarian Rugby League Federation has announced they will play a one-off Test match against Ireland, in Budapest on 30 June at NKE Sportpálya; it will be the first time the two nations have met.

HRLF president Zsolt Lukács has labelled the contest: “The biggest in the Magyar Bulls’ short history,” adding: “We are looking forward to seeing the highest level of rugby league ever played in Hungary, hoping to provide entertainment for our supporters and experience for our players, who are preparing for the Emerging Nations World Championship in Sydney this October.”

Rugby League Ireland official Steve Hogan noted: “We are honoured to be able to travel to Hungary and play this fixture in the beautiful, historic city of Budapest. We are especially looking forward to the part we can play in assisting the development of the sport in central Europe. We look forward to facing our hosts in the knowledge that they will be as immensely proud of wearing their national shirt as we are of ours.”
