Spain prepared for their opening European Championship C game, at home to Malta this Saturday in Valencia, with a 36-24 win over Italy B in Alicante.

On a chilly and blustery Friday night in Jacksonville, Florida, the USA Hawks hung on to beat Jamaica 20-14 in the opening game of the Firehouse Subs Rugby League World Cup Americas Region Qualifying series.
In what turned out to be a competitive and entertaining match, the home team edged the visitors by four tries to three after leading narrowly10-6 at halftime.
Thirteen of Jamaica’s designated 20-man squad for the Firehouse Subs Rugby League World Cup Qualifiers – Americas, which start in Florida next week, come from the Championship or League 1 in the UK.
A trio of players travel over from Hunslet Hawks – Danny Thomas, Mo Agoro and Richie Barnett – with Batley and Keighley each providing a pair.
The road to the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, to be held in the Antipodes, will begin a month from now in Riga on 9th May, when Latvia take on Spain in a knockout encounter.
The winners will become the final side in this year’s European C tournament, which will form part of the qualifying process that will see three more European sides join the seven already announced as seeds, together with further qualifiers from four other continents to make up the 14 nations.
