Word coming out of Australia suggests that Sam Burgess' rugby career has hit yet another speed bump as his would-be employers, the South Sydney Rabbitohs, now seemingly cannot afford the duel-code star's wages. With salary caps in place for all the clubs participating within the NRL, the bean-counters need to have all their ducks in a row when it comes to balancing the books – but it appears that someone might have got their numbers wrong.

The stats alone that the event has produced are staggering, with total match attendances at well over two million and the TV audiences even higher than that.

With fewer than three months to go now until the start of the Rugby World Cup, Stuart Lancaster’s official squad will be chomping at the bit to get started in Twickenham this September.

The squad, which was announced officially back in May, has not been without controversy. After Dylan Hartley made headlines for head-butting Jamie George, and subsequently being withdrawn from the squad, questions were being thrown around concerning Lancaster’s attitudes towards ill-discipline.

England's players surely need no more motivation than just the idea of winning the Rugby World Cup on their home soil. Just in case, though, reports are that the players face a bonus of some £100,000 per player if they manage to lift the trophy in October at Twickenham.
