The first two squads have been named for the U19 European Championships, to be held at the Makis stadium, Belgrade from 5-11 August; Wales and Ukraine playing in the opening fixture. The winners go through to the semi finals and the losers play in ranking matches.

The Ukrainian Federation of Rugby League has named a strong train-on squad ahead of the their defence of their European Championship C crown, which begins at the end of the month in Malta in the Southern section. The competition - which also features Greece in their pool, before a play-off against the winners from the North – doubles as a qualifier for the 2021 Rugby League World Cup.

The board of Kyiv Rhinos has engaged New Zealand Rugby League coach Ray Murphy to assist as head coach. From February 1, 2018 to the end of the season. Murphy will train the club's main team and advise youth and children teams.

November 26, 2016 in Kharkiv at the Conference of the UFRL was proposed by the Federation Presidium and supported by all delegates the strategic plan for the development of Rugby League in Ukraine for 2017-2021. The main project of this plan is the creation of a professional rugby league, which must based on restructured Ukrainian clubs in the style of English professional rugby league clubs.
