Ukraine lived up to their pre-tournament favourites tag with a comfortable win against Norway in the opening match of the 2013 European Bowl. The hosts, led by four-try, quicksilver winger Oleksandr Korobov, outscored the visitors by nine tries to two in a first-ever meeting between the two countries.

Top level domestic competition - The Ukraine based club Legion XIII currently play in the Russian Championship. Ukraine plan to start their own championship in 2009.
RLV Kviv emerged undefeated from their three games to take the first-ever Ukrainian Student Rugby League championship, after a round-robin tournament held at the Locomotive Stadium in Chop at the weekend.
Four university teams entered, Kviv only conceding points in their final match, against second-place Uzhgorod 1.

Ukraine rugby league registered a memorable win against the BARLA Young Lions touring team to capture the Artur Martyrosyan Memorial Cup in Kharkov. The British amateurs led 16-10 at the break but the home side crossed three times in the second half, led admirably by Vladimir Mashkin and a strong defensive effort from Sergii Kravchenko, hanging on to triumph 26-22.
Over the weekend the Final Rugby League games between the best Ukrainian teams were held at the "Star" stadium in Kharkiv. Those teams had a chance to uphold an honour of their cities: RLC "Legion XIII" Kharkiv, RLC "Kribass" Krivoy Rog, RLC "Titan" Donetsk, RLC "CEPU" from Simferopol.
The first two squads have been named for the U19 European Championships, to be held at the Makis stadium, Belgrade from 5-11 August; Wales and Ukraine playing in the opening fixture. The winners go through to the semi finals and the losers play in ranking matches.
The Ukrainian Federation of Rugby League has named a strong train-on squad ahead of the their defence of their European Championship C crown, which begins at the end of the month in Malta in the Southern section. The competition - which also features Greece in their pool, before a play-off against the winners from the North – doubles as a qualifier for the 2021 Rugby League World Cup.
The president of the Ukrainian Federation of Rugby League, Artur Martyrosyan Jnr, recently conducted a visit to England, with his principal objective being to garner support from Super League clubs to back his similar vision back home.
