Scott Edwards has stepped down as chairman of Svenska Rugby League Förening (SRL), a post he had held since the creation of the Swedish governing body three years ago.
“An idea that was, in the beginning, simply a personal dream is now a reality,” said the former London Skolars player, who moved to Sweden ten years ago as a school teacher and started developing the sport there in 2009.
As they prepare to make their entry in this season’s Nordic Cup, with a match against Denmark in Copenhagen on 16th August, holders Sweden are hoping continued domestic progress will help them become the first Scandinavian nation to win the trophy twice.
The 2013 rugby league season in Sweden will open with a 7's tournament hosted by Kungsbacka Rugby Club on the 23rd March. The 7's tournament will have an international flavour with teams from Denmark and Norway taking part.
Six teams will contest the third Scandinavian 9s at Kungsbacka next Saturday (21 March) as a prelude to the Sweden RL domestic season.
Copenhagen Black Swans will be defending the title and this year sees newly formed Stockholm-based clubs Kungar and Södertälje Storm joining Skåne Crusaders and Kungsbacka Broncos. Gothenburg RK will also make their debut in the competition.
The pan Scandinavian competition has come to an end for 2014, with skåne crusaders successfully defending their 2013 premiership going undefeated for the second season since the start of the competition.

The 2013 rugby league season in Scandinavian warmed up over the weekend with the Scandinavian 7's Tournament taking place in Kungsbacka, Sweden. Teams from Sweden, Norway and Denmark all entered teams and the day itself was a huge success, showcasing the exciting rugby league talent within Scandinavia.
Sweden Rugby League has hosted a landmark match officials development course in Jönköping, central Sweden, as part of the RLEF-EU Leadership Devolution Project.
Major changes have been unveiled by Sweden Rugby League which has seen them elect a new chairman and board, sign a major sponsorship deal and announce the formation of two new clubs in Stockholm which will see the start of regular domestic competition.
The RLEF completed its Swedish programme in the 18-month, EU-part funded Leadership Devolution Project, running a coaching activity in Lund, in the south of the country to qualify their two trainee educators, Paul Briggs and Ashley Brown.

Sweden to hold another open training session to fans as well as national selection.
An open training session will be held on Sunday July 13 in Jönköping for all current players and those interested in trying out rugby league for the first time.
