Ciencias Valencia claim inaugural Spanish Rugby League Cup

Ciencias Valencia have picked up their first silverware, winning the inaugural Spanish Cup on a sweltering afternoon in the city.
The final of the six-team tournament was a triangular competition of three 40 minute games, also involving Alcoià Comtat de Alicante and newly-crowned league champions Irreductibles Edetans.
Rugby League in schools program launched in Spain

Rugby league is being introduced to schools in Spain with the first part of a programme launched successfully in Guadassuar, Valencia.
More than 100 children aged between 8 and 14 participated in the two days led by Tony Palacios, director of the college of Spanish referees and Aitor Dàvila, director of college coaches.

FIRL (Federazione Italiana Rugby League) and AERL (Spanish Association of Rugby League) have agreed to collaborate on the joint development of rugby league in both countries.
The agreement, which initially covers the next two years, provides a working framework to continue to build the sport in both countries, along with international fixtures.

The first group of nineteen Spanish referees have received their Level 1 qualification following a three-day visit from RLEF tutor Phil Smith in Valencia. The training course supports the first ever Spanish championship, which kicked off in late March between five clubs.
