Serbia Rugby League receive funding boost via Australian embassy in Serbia

Serbian Rugby League has announced that a sponsorship deal with the Australian embassy in Serbia will continue in 2018. Through the Australian Department for Foreign Affairs’ Trade Direct Aid Programme, the SRL will again receive funds for rugby league development at junior and youth level.

The traditional season-opener, the Serbian Super Cup between the winners of the domestic and Balkan Super Leagues, saw Red Star defeat Belgrade rivals Partizan 42-26 at the BASK Arena.

Serbia rugby league has stepped up their preparations for the forthcoming 2017 Rugby League World Cup European Pool A Qualifiers against Wales and Italy.

Their national side had a terrific 64-4 win in Valencia against Spain, Miloš Ćalić with three of their 13 tries, whilst their U21s were defeated 22-6 by Lebanon in the second match of their series, after the sides drew the opening game 18-all.
