PAPUA New Guinea Rugby Football League has announced its Rugby League 9s team to represent Papua New Guinea at the 2015 Pacific Games in Port Moresby.
SP Hunters Head Coach Michael Marum will take charge of the team with Strength & Conditioning Coach Jason Tassell to be the trainer while Solomon Kuluniasi will be team manager.

I have to say when it comes to passion for the sport of rugby league it's hard to go past Papua New Guinea. They are fanatical when it comes to the greatest game. This passion has been amplified by PNG’s early exit from the Rugby League World Cup. It would be an understatement to say the locals are restless. The two people who are copping it from all sides are rugby league legends Mal Meninga and Adrian Lam.

The 2013 Digicel Cup kicks off this Sunday with 5 rugby league matches taking place across Papua New Guinea. The opening match will see the Rabaul Gurias take on the Mendi Muruks at the Kalabond Oval in Kokopo.

Papua New Guinea head coach Michael Marum has named a 20 man squad ahead of their clash against the England Knights in Lae this Saturday, October 27 at 3pm local time (6.00am BST).
The Northern Zone Championships held in Wau over the weekend were an outstanding success according to PNGRFL Interim CEO Brad Tassell who travelled to the region for the event:
PORT MORESBY, August 20 – The winners of Papua New Guinea’s Digicel Cup competition and Fiji’s Vodafone Cup competition will face off in Port Moresby in October in the inaugural Rugby League Melanesian Club Championship.
Following in the footsteps of the World Club Challenge, long contested by NRL and Super League clubs, the premiers of PNG and Fiji’s national leagues will now play off for a regional title.

There have been lots of positive rugby league stories coming out of PNG recently. Just last week it was announced that Mal Meninga would join the Kumuls World Cup team as high performance coaching director. The Kumuls actually have a high performance division? Wow it's amazing the progress that can be made when the right people are running the show.
