Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League kicks off its 2015 National Confederates championships in Lae this Tuesday.
Southern, Highlands, New Guineas Islands and Northern confederates have finalised their teams for the championships and will be flying into the Morobe capital for what is considered an integral part of the PNGRFL programs at the Lae Rugby league grounds.
New signings in the close season are always a hot topic in any sport, not just rugby league, and it looks like one of the major talking points ahead of the 2015 campaign has arrived early, up in the North East.
SP PNG Hunter Mark Mexico has been signed by Australian NRL club the Cronulla Sharks and will link with his new club immediately.
Mexico, a World Cup Kumul front rower, has signed a one-‐year contract with the option of an extended contract based on his performances at his new club this season.
Two SP Hunters players have been given “train and trial” opportunities with NRL clubs while the third has been contracted to another Intrust Super Cup club.
Kato Ottio has joined the Canberra Raiders while Warren Clare is bound for Cronulla Sharks on “train & trial” engagements.

Minister for Sport Hon Justin Tkatchenko has today handed over a cheque for K240,000 for upgrades to Kalabond Stadium for PM13 Kangaroos vs. Kumuls match on September 29th.
The cheque was presented to PNGRFL Chairman Don Fox and ENB Governor Ereman Tobaining JNR today and matches kina for kina the contribution also made by Governor Tobaining towards the important match. Team Kumul mentor Mal Meninga was also present to thank the Minister and Governor for their contribution.
The Minister for Sport Hon Justin Tkatchenko has confirmed today that steps are underway to transfer the ownership of the PNG Rugby League Foundation to the PNGRFL.
PNGRFL Chairman Don Fox today announced the Team Kumul Red and Gold teams who will take on each other in a trial match on Sunday 22nd September 2013 at Lloyd Robson Oval in Port Moresby.
