Lebanon Espoirs 0 English Lions U18s 40 - University of Beirut, Hostler Centre
The first historic match between an England team and a Lebanese side ended with a 40-0 victory for the English Lions Under-18s on Saturday evening in Beirut.The tourists scored four tries in each half as they overcame a spirited Liban Espoirs outfit to register a comfortable win.
The visitors had to contend with a stomach bug that knocked out key players Jack Jones and Jack Green prior to the match as well as the sweltering 32 degrees heat at kick off but quickly hit their straps on AUBâ€™s impressive 3G surface, their training base for the tour.
The Lebanese Rugby League Federation has confirmed the renewal of their sponsorship with multi-national communications company GMEA, who will enter into their fourth year supporting Lebanon’s youth programme.
The newly re-branded GMEA Schools Rugby League will cover two regions, North Lebanon and Mount Lebanon, as well as the U16 and U18 national teams.
A revitalised Lebanese schools rugby league competition is set for kick off in two regions, after the LRLF held positive talks with the Ministry of Education to re-introduce the sport to PE teachers.
The Mount Lebanon group will see Antonine International School (AIS) defend their U18 title against International College, Saint Frances Hamra and Saint Joseph Kornet Chehwan.
The Lebanese Rugby League Federation has reluctantly announced the release of Ivan Cleary from his position of national team coach, following his appointment as head coach of Wests Tigers earlier this month.

“Unprecedented media coverage of the Cedars’ World Cup campaign will lead to increased support at all levels,” claims Lebanon Rugby League Federation president Mohamed Habbous, after the side made the quarter finals for the first time, thereby ensuring their qualification for the next tournament in England in 2021.
