Latvia hosts latest leg of rugby league European Project

The Latvian Rugby League has hosted the latest activity in the Leadership Devolution Project, as three Spanish, two Polish and one Scottish coach tutor-trainees joined their two Latvian colleagues in the beautiful setting of Sigulda, 50km north east of the capital Riga, nestling on the edge of the Gauja national park.

A 22-16 victory over Livonia in the final round of matches saw Valmieras Fēnikss claim the Latvian Rugby League domestic crown.

Latvian Rugby League Federation hosts successful coaching course

The Latvian Rugby League Federation has hosted a Level 1 coaching course in Riga which resulted in Vilmars Sokolovs and Aivis Asmanis receiving their coach educator qualification, and three new coaches qualified. RLEF coaching manager Martin Crick was supported by Polska Rugby XIII officials in delivering the course.

RC Fenikss Latvian Rugby League Champions

RC Fēnikss has been crowned Latvian rugby league champions after the second tranche of matches in the four team competition, begun last autumn, were completed.

Ķekava Warriors were runners-up ahead of Grobiņa Vikings and Livonia.

Latvians visit Scotland Rugby League camps & meet St Helens staff

Scotland Rugby League has hosted three delegates from Latvia who observed the Bravehearts’ U15 and U16 national camp held at Sportscotland’s National Centre in Largs.

Also, as part of the RLEF’s European Commission-backed Governance Foundation Project, the trio participated in an SRL Board meeting, the trip forming the second phase of an exchange after SRL National Development Manager Mark Senter visited Riga in December 2012.
