Two late penalties from Kenyon Woolery gave Mico their first title in an upset win over G.C. Foster.

The Grand Final, played at the University of Technology grounds was a rip-roaring game, the sides coming in to it with similar regular season records having won nine of their ten games, the only defeats being to each other.

Jamaica Rugby League will take on Trinidad and Canada in 2013

Rugby League in the Caribbean just got a little bigger with the Jamaica Rugby League Association announcing that they will be playing against rugby league new comers Trinidad on June the 15th in Kingston.

Being new to rugby league and recently setting up the Trinidad Rugby League Association the game will be the first time Trinidad have played a rugby league international. The birth of Trinidad on the international scene also shows the great work the Jamaica Rugby League Association have been doing to help grow the game in the Caribbean.

The Jamaica Rugby League Association’s 2012 National Club Champions will be decided next weekend when old foes Vauxhall Vultures and Duhaney Park Red Sharks face each other at Up Park. The two clubs have emerged from a pack of eight who began the campaign on June 23rd.

Reggae warriors name team to face Canada

The Jamaica Rugby League Association has announced the 17 players that will face Canada at the Lamport Stadium in Toronto on Saturday, July 21 at 7pm. The Reggae Warriors as the national team is known, will battle the Wolverines for the second annual Caribbean Carnival Cup, currently held by Canada after their 40-10 victory last year. The squad will depart the island on Thursday and return on Sunday.

Canada is currently positioned 21st in the Rugby League International Federation’s World Ranking while the Reggae Warriors are 23rd.

Jamaica’s progress helped by the inaugural RL Development Fund

One year ago, the first Rugby League Development Fund was awarded to Jamaica. For those who don't know, the Rugby League Development Fund is a concept run by Rugby League Planet in which members of the fund donate
$120 annually to help develop the sport of Rugby League in one deserved country. With interest slowly gaining throughout the course of the first year, we managed to raise $1,000 to assist with the development of Rugby League in the Caribbean nation. After receiving a great level of interest and applications, we feel our members came to a great decision. 12 months on, we asked Romeo Montieth just how far our donation went and if it made a difference. First game in Jamaica A v BARLA Under 23s today

The depth of talent in Jamaican Rugby League will be tested this week in a two-game series between Jamaica A and the touring BARLA Under 23s which starts today (Saturday, June 9 in Mona, Kingston.

The Jamaica A team is likely to include Roy Calvert, Nathan Campbell, Ryan Grant,Romaen Campbell, Fabion Turner, Andre Reid and Ryan Spence from the Hurricanes team which emphatically beat USARL side, the DC Slayers recently. It will be led by either Calvert or Romaen Campbell.
