Italian rugby league has been boosted, as the Azzurri prepare for their debut in the forthcoming World Cup, following a meeting with the countryâ€™s National Olympic Committee.
A delegation of FIRL Vice President Tiziano Franchini and Treasurer Fabio Di Pietro travelled to Rome to meet with the Secretary General of the CONI, Roberto Fabbricini.
Eight nations will again contest the U19s European Championship in 2020, with Italy hosting the event for the first time. North East coastal city Lignano Sabbiadoro will be the base for the biennial event which will take place from 3-13 September 2020.

Three more new clubs are scheduled to start the Italian domestic season, which is officially launched at the end of May in Milan.
The structure will see four teams in three conferences â€“ North West, North East and Central â€“ with the three leading sides in each conference and the best runner up overall contesting the semi finals.

"It will be a very interesting championship"
The captain of three-times champion XIII of Ducato, Fabio Berzieri, expects a season harder than ever: â€œthis year is very important because in October Italy will participate in the World Cup so all the players will want to do their best to make an impact in the domestic championshipâ€, says Hogan.
The wait for the first official fixture in 2014 for the Italian Azzurri is already approaching, the Azzurri will fly to Watamu (in Kenya) to challenge a representative team of the African country on March 21.

Defending champions XIII del Ducato from Piacenza retained the FIRL Championship title after a convincing 54-11 win in the Serie A Grand Final against newly-formed Ariete Este from Padova.
Kelly Rolleston, coach of the north-west regional side which takes in XIII del Ducato, said, "Congratulations to Este who showed a lot of determination and heart. I am pleased with how we played and it was clear that our experience over the last two seasons was a big part of our success. It was nice to see some of the new players really stamp their mark, like Giacomo Alfonsi and Davide Rancati; we were pleased with the whole day and the chance to play at home in front of our supporters.â€
