France team manager Gilles Dumas has stressed the importance of the 2015 European Championships as a stepping stone to performing well in the 2017 World Cup.
As quarter-finalists in the last global tournament in 2013, when Les Tricolors successfully hosted group games, the French are automatic seeds for the next one in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.
In preparation for their European Championship bid, French coach Richard Agar is set to announce his squad on 1st October. The group will then go into camp in Perpignan from 12th-14th October in preparation for the Tricolors’ opening game against Ireland in Albi on 17th (kick off 3.30pm), tickets for which have just gone on sale.
In last season’s European Championship, the Irish triumphed 22-12, a result that saw the French deprived of qualification for the 2016 Four Nations alongside England, Australia and New Zealand.

League 1, the 3rd and lowest tier of professional Rugby League in Britain has become steadily populated with burgeoning expansion clubs, such as Coventry who entered this year. For the first time in the sport’s history in the country, French rugby league has been invited to be part of a national delegation, with Federation president Carlos Zalduendo – who is also on the RLEF Board - accompanying leader François Holland to Australia.
