Bulgaria make their Test debut this evening when they take on Greece in the opening game of the 2017 Balkans Championship in Belgrade, Serbia. The bulk of their squad come from their most established club, Lokomotiv Sofia, but Georgi Kostov from CSKA Moscow is also included.
It is with considerable sadness that the Rugby League International and European Federations have been made aware of the tragic passing of Georgi Kocev. The 31-year-old, who played for Bulgaria in the 2017 Balkan Championship, was training with his club side CSKA Moscow when he suffered an apparent heart attack.
Serbia U19s came from behind to register a 26-20 victory, after debutants Bulgaria came close to a shock upset win on their debut in Sofia in front of 300 fans at the ŽTP Stadium.
