Bosnia and Herzegovina closer to forming rugby league federation

The last few weeks have seen a marked increase in rugby league activity in Bosnia and Herzegovina. On 3rd November Banja Luka hosted the ‘Open Championship of the Republic of Srpska’, which saw four Serbian and two Bosnian clubs face each other at 9s.

Rudar from Stanari - near the city of Doboj in Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina - have played their first competitive game of rugby league after forming three months ago.

The club, meaning miners because of their links to a nearby coal mine, faced Banja Luka’s White Rabbits, going down 28-0 in front of over 200 fans in a match refereed by Slobodan Manak from the Serbian Rugby League Federation.

GB Rugby League Student Pioneers depart for Bosnia

The GB Student Pioneers have departed for Bosnia today, on a 10-day tour consisting of two games against a Bosnia RL XII and a 9s tournament.

The ground breaking side, made up of 20 players from 17 universities, will also spend their time spreading the word in local schools, clubs and engaging with the media, to raise the profile of the sport in the country.

RLC Bjeli Zecevi have emerged as champions from the first season of domestic rugby league competition in Bosnia and Herzegovina, defeating Stanari’s RLC Rudar 36-4 at the city stadium in Doboj, in the final game of a three club, six round campaign.
