Sierra Leone granted obersver status while USARL recognised by RLEF


At its board meeting following the successful conclusion of the European Championship, the RLEF has granted Observer status to a third West African country, Sierra Leone – who follow in the footsteps of Ghana and Nigeria – and admitted the United States Association of Rugby League as an Affiliate Member.

The first group of nineteen Spanish referees have received their Level 1 qualification following a three-day visit from RLEF tutor Phil Smith in Valencia. The training course supports the first ever Spanish championship, which kicked off in late March between five clubs.

England Youth coach Stu Barrow has been impressed with his 35-man squad as they prepare for a two-Test series against their French counterparts.

The country’s best under-16s travel to France this weekend and will play the French Youth side on Friday April 18 and Tuesday April 22, with an extra game against a French President’s Select team on Monday April 21.

The Federazione Italiana Rugby Football League could expand championship

The Federazione Italiana Rugby Football League (FIRFL), the ‘unofficial rugby league body’ in Italy have announced early signs of expansion for their mid-year championship - the r-Evolution League (specifically, the Central Italian group). The first new city announced for the 2015 season is L’Aquila in the Abruzzo region, after another rugby league training session held was at a new FIRFL Sports Facility (centro sportivo “dei Rogazionisti”) in Grottaferrata, a sub-city in Rome on December 22 with 27 players present, but not only for some players from Lazio, but much wider in Umbria and Abruzzo.
