The RLIF Board met on 12 January and finalised the documentation proposed by the RLIF Chief Executive, David Collier, for potential Hosts for the 2021 Rugby League World Cup.

David Collier commented:

“The bid documentation provides the criteria and the requirements upon which submissions will be considered for the 2021 World Cup. The deadline for submissions will be the end of June 2016 and we expect to announce the successful bidder in the fourth quarter of 2016.”

“The Rugby League World Cup is the marquee event for our sport and requires world class facilities and infrastructure to provide the stage for the world’s best players to deliver the highest quality of rugby for all our supporters and for the nations participating.”

The RLIF Board also confirmed financial support for the Asia Pacific and European Continental operations and grants for each of the 18 Full Members.
RLIF Chairman Nigel Wood commented:

“These grants are fundamental to the financial health of our members and the Board approved the early payment of the 2016 grants to assist our Members. The Board also noted the excellent progress made by the Continental Federations, the successful hosting of the World Cup Qualifiers in Florida and South Africa and the securing of additional funding by the European Federation from the European Commission to support coaching and governance.”

The Board noted the good progress being made by the Rugby World Cup 2017 operation and the discussions which are well advanced with potential host cities.
