By Brian Lowe,
There is absolutely no question about what Rugby League Planet readers think about a Fiji team entering the New South Wales rugby league judging by the results of our latest survey on Twitter.
The Kaiviti Silktails have been admitted to the NSWRL’s Ron Massey Cup. Their inaugural game will be on March 14 against Windsor.
We asked if you think the Silktails’ inclusion in the competition will improve Fiji’s standing in international rugby league and in a landslide result, it was a resounding yes.
98.9 percent voted yes, while only 1.1 percent said no.
This poll attracted the biggest response by far and produced the most lopsided result since we started running surveys on social media in 2019.
Among the comments from readers were suggestions that it will open up a pathway for Fijian players into the NRL, it can’t help but improve Fiji, there’s plenty of potential in Fiji that will be fostered by playing in the Ron Massey Cup, and it will mirror what has been happening with the PNG Hunters, who compete in the Intrust Super Cup in Queensland.
All in all, the overwhelming majority of our readers see this as a very positive development for rugby league in Fiji.
