Rugby League World Cup 2021 (RLWC2021) has launched its education resource programme, a free resource available for primary and secondary schools to help teachers deliver rugby league lessons in a fun and exciting way.
Working with the RFL, the tournament’s legacy project, InspirationALL, has created an online portal where teachers can access a full programme to teach tag rugby league for primary school students, or 9s rugby league for secondary school pupils. This will be open for all schools and teachers to download until the tournament begins in October 2021.
The programme includes an easy-to-digest video, so those who haven’t experienced the sport before can learn the basics in the easiest way possible. In addition, each resource includes lesson plans, fixtures templates, certificates and video messages from tournament ambassadors to help inspire pupils. In 2020, the team will launch a cross-curriculum programme giving teachers the opportunity to take the sport into the classroom across a range of topics.
Hosting RLWC2021 in England will give the sport an even more powerful platform from which to connect with wider audiences. InspirationALL is the tournament’s legacy programme, which is split into three strands. CreatedBy: a capital grants programme, where £10million will be spent with clubs and communities on kit, equipment and large-scale facilities. EmpoweredBy: the tournament’s volunteer programme, which will launch later this year. InspiredBy: all the other touchpoints where the tournament will inspire, from health, heritage and education, where elements such as this new education resource programme fit.
Chief Executive of the Rugby League World Cup 2021, Jon Dutton said: “We know the tournament in 2021 will reach new audiences and hopefully inspire the next generation but the tournament also gives us leverage to start that process now, and the launch of our education resource programme is a significant step in our planning. We hope that teachers and pupils find it useful and there will be more to come in 2020.”
