A proposed match between the USA Hawks and Canada Wolverines in Denver, Colorado, in June will not go ahead.
The game had been proposed by Australian promoters Moore Sports International (MSI) as a curtain-raiser to the Rugby League Football International Challenge in the mile-high city.
MSI, a sports events business based in Sydney, is reportedly funding the international challenge match between England and New Zealand set to be played at Sports Authority Field on Saturday, June 23, 2018.
Despite inaccurate reports in the British rugby league media that the game was nixed because USA Rugby League is struggling financially, that is not the case.
It’s understood the USARL was asked to consider participating in the proposed game at the eleventh hour, however, there were certain aspects of the promoters’ agreement that weren’t acceptable to the national governing body.
The USA Hawks’ 2018 schedule will be released when the international calendar has been finalized by the Rugby League International Federation.
