A family illness has forced a late change to the USA Hawks’ coaching staff leading up to the Rugby League World Cup.

Assistant coach Mark Gliddon has had to withdraw due to the family situation.

Gliddon himself was a late replacement on the American coaching staff when Brett Kimmorley was forced to step down as an assistant coach following the passing of his wife Sharnie earlier this year.

The USA Rugby League (USARL) has appointed Jamie Dowse as the new assistant to head coach Brian McDermott.

Like Gliddon, Dowse plies his trade in club competition in the Australian state of Queensland.

He has told the USARL website that he’s excited about coming on board for RLWC 2017, saying it will be a great experience.
