Overview: France and Papua New Guinea will both be out to get their world cup campaign off to a good start when they meet on neutral ground at MS3 Craven Park in Hull. France competitiveness has improved since the French based side Catalan Dragons entered the Super League in 2006. Now the French can field a team almost full of professional rugby league players and will be looking to wash away the memories of an average display in the 2008 RLWC.
France are now on shaky ground after going down to the United States 22 – 18 in Toulouse in a world cup warm-up match. France will need to pick up the intensity or it could be an opening loss for the French against the Kumuls.
Papua New Guinea have been getting their house back in order and have implemented a high performance unit to assist with their world cup campaign. Papua New Guinea last reached the RLWC quarter finals back in 2000 and will be looking to go one better in 2013. The Kumuls will be looking to take advantage of France’s only world cup group game not on French soil.
The Kumuls easily accounted for Scotland 38 – 20 in a world cup warm-up match in Featherstone. With Adrian Lam and Mal Meninga guiding the Kumuls they might just do better than everyone is expecting.
