South African Rugby League

Date: 16/10/13

South Africa announced a strong squad to take on New South Wales in the international friendly to be played this weekend at Bosman Stadium in Brakpan at 19h00 on Friday evening the 18th of October. The New South Wales Team did very well against the Combined Clubs, winning by fifty points. This Friday, however, they face the national team, The Rhino’s, and it will be a different ball game. A lot of the Rhino Players come from the very successful Student Team who participated in the 2013 Student Rugby League World Cup where the team ended fifth.

Deon Kraemer, Captain of the Rhino Squad, was very upbeat about the match: “It’s an honour and great privilege to be selected as Captain and to lead this very talented men in the South African Rhino squad. Thanks to all for entrusting with this responsibility and can only hope with the strength of our God, I will make you all proud. Surely with senior guys like Jonathan Soares, Allan Kasselman, Jean-Pierre Nel and Christo Louw my job will be easier.

We have a tough task ahead, playing a NSW County team that is unknown to us. After seeing their performance this past Saturday against a tough Combined Clubs team, I can see they are a formidable side. But although with little time for preparations, I think the Rhino boys will be a force themselves. Looking forward to an entertaining game Friday.”

The National Rhino Team is as follows:

Deon Kramer (TUKS) (Captain); Allan Kasselman (TUKS)(Vice-Captain); Jean-Di Oosthuysen (TIGERS); Jonothan Soares (TUKS); Ian van Deventer (TUKS) ; Hein Pretorius (TUKS); Adriaan Laidlaw (TUKS); Jean Coetzer (TUKS); Hans du Plessis (TUKS); Christo Louw (TUKS); Hein Olivier (TUKS); Shaun Bouwer (TUKS); Nardus Raubenheimer (TUKS); Elardus Erasmus (TIGERS); Johan Fritz (TIGERS); Gideon Fick (DRAGONS); Jean-Pierre Nel (TUKS);

Steeden, Action Motors and Sportslab sponsor the National Team.

The games will be at the following venue:
