Today, Thursday August 22, tournament organisers are celebrating 100 days to go to the Rugby League World Cup Final at Old Trafford on November 30.

The match will bring down the curtain on the biggest global sporting event of 2013, which gets underway at the Millennium Stadium on October 26.

England’s Adrian Morley met up with members of ‘Team 13’ – the Rugby League World Cup 2013 volunteer programme – on the roof of the BBC’s Quay House at MediaCityUK to thank them for their support.

The trio were able to gain a spectacular view of the Rugby League World Cup Final venue and Morley, who was raised in Salford, in the shadow of the stadium, admits that the sight provided the perfect inspiration ahead of RLWC2013.

He said: “As a local lad, a Manchester United fan and an England player, I can’t tell you how exciting the thought of playing at Old Trafford in a Rugby League World Cup Final is to me.

“It’d be the pinnacle. I’ve played there for Great Britain, and in a couple of Grand Finals, but to do it in a match as big as this would surpass all of that.
“To be here to help mark 100 days to go to the Final is great. It’s the game every player wants to play in, and the one every true fan wants to witness.”

RLWC2013 General Manager Sally Bolton, said: “Rugby League has a very strong history with Old Trafford at domestic and international level, and a fantastic new chapter in that story will be written on November 30.

“The opening ceremony and double header of matches at the Millennium Stadium will be an exciting way to commence the tournament, and the atmosphere at the Theatre of Dreams on November 30 will be worthy of any major sporting final.”
