Rugby League World Cup 2013 today secured the support of one of the UK’s best loved on-screen duos, as tournament mascot Grubber invited new friends Wallace and Gromit to take a closer look at the Rugby League World Cup trophy.

The famous trophy is in Bristol this week, greeting rugby league fans and members of the public ahead of the showdown between USA Tomahawks and the Cook Islands at Bristol’s Memorial Stadium on Wednesday, October 30.

Absent-minded inventor Wallace and his trusty canine companion Gromit have delighted audiences at the cinema and in the home for more than 20 years.

Four shorts, a feature film – several malfunctioning inventions – and a host of awards later, the stop-motion superstars took time out of their busy schedules to welcome the trophy to Bristol and join in with the countdown to the tournament, which gets underway with a spectacular Opening Ceremony and double header of matches at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on October 26.

Grubber and the trophy will now move on to the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta at Ashton Court Estate on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Residents and visitors are invited to come along and see the trophy for themselves. They can also find out more about Rugby League World Cup 2013, including information about the matches, the Bristol game, and how to buy tickets.

There’s also a competition offering the chance to win match tickets by uploading your photo with the trophy to www.trophytour.rlwc2013.com.
Tickets for the match between USA and Cook Islands at the Memorial Stadium on October 30 are on sale now, with prices starting from £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.
