PNGâ€™s most prestigious rugby league competition, the Digicel Cup 2013 came alive last night with the official launch event staged at the Gateway Hotel in Port Moresby.
About a hundred invited guests including, corporate support sponsors, members of parliament as well as representatives from the ten participating franchises and members of the media were all there to witness Digicel, PNGâ€™s leading telecommunications company officiate the 2013 Digicel Cup season.
While launching the event, Digicel PNG CEO-John Mangos said; â€œThis year Digicel aims at making this season friendlier and a family oriented event for everyone.â€
â€œSince taking this game onboard two years ago, we have seen this prestigious sporting event grow from strength to strength every year and also a tremendous turn around in terms of the following of the game as well in the safe and friendlier family-oriented game atmosphere..
As a brand, we pride ourselves in creating an entertaining environment where the whole family can go to during weekends. We have seen an improvement so far and I applaud PNGNRL for its management and commitment in ensuring that violence is not tolerated both on and off field. We look forward to continue working with all stakeholders in making the Digicel Cup bigger and better in the coming three years.â€

PNGâ€™s most prestigious sporting competition, the Digicel Cup 2013 comes alive this Sunday, April 14 when the Digicel Cup teams which include defending champions the mighty Agmark Gurias, 2012 runners up Mendi Muruks, Bintangor Lahanis, Stop n Shop Vipers, TNA Lions, Gulf Isapea, Snax Tigers, Wamp Nga Hagen Eagles, Hela Wigmen and Enga Mioks all contest for the coveted Digicel Cup trophy.
The first games will kick off this Sunday in five centers nationwide. The Bintangor Lahaniswill go head to head with the Gulf Isapeas in Goroka.The Snax Tigers will be up against the Wamp Nga Hagen Eagles in Lae. Port Moresby home team SNS Vipers will lock horns with the Hela Wigmen in POM while Enga Mioks will go up against the TNA Lions in Tente Oval, Soutehrn Highlands Province. The Digicel Cup Season Premier winner-Agmark Gurias will host last yearâ€™s runners up Mendi Muruks at KalabondOval in Kokopo.
A total of eight (8) venues around the country will hosts the Digicel Cup matches throughout the season. These are PRL – Port Moresby, Lae Rugby League Ground – Lae, Kalabond Park – Kokopo, Rebiamul Oval – Mt Hagen, Johnson Siki Oal -Wabag, Dickson Oval â€“ Kundiawa,NSI sports field in Goroka and Tente Oval in Southern Highlands Province.
All games kick-off at 2pm and 3pm.
