1972 World Cup Snapshot – The 1972 World Cup was the second time France had hosted the tournament. Unfortunately it was not going to be a repeat of the 1954 World Cup with France missing out on the Final. As per the previous World Cup Australia and Great Britain played each other in the final. The game was played at Lyon in front of a small crowd. In a tough battle Australia and Great Britain were all level at the end of extra time. Great Britain were awarded the World Cup based on table standings. Great Britain had won the World Cup for the third time.
