The first match at the Sydney Cricket Ground saw 62,256 spectators pack the ground to see Australia defeat Great Britain 25 – 10. Australia went through the tournament undefeated and booked a place against France in the final.
The French could offer nothing in attack and went down to the Australian’s 20 -2, before 54,290 spectators. Australia had become World Cup Champions for the second time.
