According to the PNG Post Courier the Coca-Cola Ipatas Cup rugby league competition will break all records with a total of 84 teams from 21 provinces scheduled to take part in 2013.

This is a 20 team increase on last years competition. The growth is a great sign showing that rugby league continues to dominate the sporting landscape in PNG.

The Ipatas Cup also provides players with a chance to impress rugby league scouts from the Digicel Cup, the top level RL competition in PNG.  Those who impress might find themselves running around in the Digicel Cup later this year.

With the continued growth of rugby league in PNG it is surely only a matter of time before the NRL has no choice but to listen to the calls for an NRL team based out of Port Moresby. A PNG based NRL team would do a world of good not only rugby league but the people of Papua New Guinea .
