1989 to 1992 World Cup Snapshot - The 1989 - 1992 World Cup had the same format as the previous World Cup. The games played between Australia and Great Britain drew big crowds on both sides of the planet. It was fitting that the final involved the same two nations. The World Cup Final was played at Wembley in front of a record international rugby league crowd of 73,631. Great Britain seemed to have the game in the bag before Australia sneaked in a try late in the second half. At full time Great Britain were left to think about opportunities missed as Australia won the World Cup for the 7th time.
