Vereya win Russian Rugby League championship as participating teams continues to grow

As Russian rugby league prepares for next autumn’s World Cup Qualifiers – Europe, the stronghold village of Vereya, 80km to the south of Moscow, is once again celebrating silverware, after their Bears RLFC heroically defeated resurrected Moscow Magicians, 28-24, in the final of the Russian championship. It saw them pick up the trophy they last held in 2013.

Russia win Euro 9’s rugby league tournament in Belgrade

Fresh from their victory over Ukraine in Belgrade, which saw them make the 2016 European Qualifiers for the 2107 World Cup, Russia won a Euro 9s tournament in the city.

Six nations participated divided in the two groups, with winners of each playing in the final for the trophy. Serbia won Group A beating Hungary 36-0 and Czech Republic 14-8, the Czechs taking second place after defeating the Hungarians 24-4.

Serbia claim historic first ever rugby league victory over Russia

Serbia (20) claimed an historic, first-ever victory over Russia (15) at the eighth time of asking, to secure their position at the top of European Championship B, at the Makis Stadium in Belgrade.

The 20-15 triumph, in a terrific clash, also maintained their ambition to make the European Qualifiers next year for the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.

Lokomotiv are new Russian Rugby League champions

A 32-10 win over defending champions Vereya at the new CSKA stadium, has seen Moscow side Lokomotiv crowned champions in front of over 1,000 fans in the Russian Rugby League Grand Final.

It was the fifth meeting of the sides this season, with the honours even but Lokomotiv were too strong in a match organised by RTC (Russian transport complex) who took over the financing, organization and promotion to make it compliant with the RF Ministry of Sport regulations.
