New South Wales Country Rugby League to tour South Africa in October 2013
Maxxium Sport and South African Rugby League is proud to announce that the New South Wales Country League will tour South Africa in October 2013. The New South Wales Team will land on the 9th of October, and while staying in South Africa will play against the SARL Rhino’s as well as a Combined Clubs Side.
SASCOC still refusing to recognize rugby league as a sport, and now bullying regional federations
SASCOC send out a communication to all the regional sporting federations this week stating that none of them are allowed to give membership to the regional Rugby League Federations. The main reason that SASCOC gave was that SASCOC, and affiliated sporting bodies, is only allowed to recognize one national sporting body per sport, and that SARU is the only official National Sporting Federation for Rugby. Section 6.1.7 was quoted, but conveniently the following two sections of the same Main Clause was left out:
South African Rugby League students travelling to World Cup in England
South African Rugby League is pleased to announce the team to travel to Leeds in the United Kingdom to compete in the 8th RLIF Student World Cup. A series of training camps and trails were held with players from all the regions over the past three months and the training squad reduced from 35 players to a squad of 24 players.
The team will depart on the 1st of July for England to compete in 3 group matches before the semifinals and finals at Headingly Stadium in Leeds.
SA Rugby League continue fight with SASCOC as Gauteng confirms membership
The Gauteng Sports Council this weekend confirmed the membership of the Gauteng Rugby League Association. This is part of the process that SARL is currently following to get official recognition for the sport in South Africa.
Western Cape Rugby League Association becomes a member Sports Council
The Western Cape Sports Council recently accepted the Western Cape Rugby League association as a member. Elton Davids of the Western Cape Sports Council commented: ”WP Sports Council is excited to have WP Rugby League as part of it's membership. Sports Council's are duty bound to acknowledge various codes, recognize their positive role in society while contributing to making this 'an active and winning nation”.
South African Rugby League Student Team will partake as a rebel tour
A South African Rugby League Student Team will partake as a “Rebel Tour” at the 2013 RLIF Students Rugby League World Cup that takes place in Leeds, England. The South African team is studded with some of the best student players from various universities, colleges and tertiary institutions across South Africa, and will come face to face with some of the best in the world from Australia, England, New Zealand, Wales, Russia, Scotland and Ireland to mention a few. The team departs for England on the 1st of July and will face England, Wales and Ireland in the Pool Stages. The final will be on the 14th of July at Headingly Stadium in Leeds, United Kingdom.
South Africa to compete in the Student Festival of World Cups for first time
England Students captain Mark Wilson believes the 2013 Student Rugby League World Cup could produce another Super League superstar.
Within the last two years, Former Leeds Metropolitan University players Jimmy Keinhorst and Alex Walmsley have made the step up into the professional ranks following spells in the student game.
“There’s a lot of untapped talent in the Student game, and supporters will get a good chance to see it up close at the World Cup.
South Africa Rugby League north vs south derby results

Goodwood Rugby Club on Saturday 16 March played host to two very memorable matches. The Middelburg Tigers travelled all the way down from Mpumalanga to play against the Cape Town Buccaneers in a historic match. This was the first time in 5 years that a Northern Gauteng Club side faced off against a Western Cape Club side, and the inaugural North vs South Derby was created.
