Russia in pole position for rugby league European Shield

European Shield leaders Russia have announced a familiar squad as they attempt to consolidate their position at the head of the table. Three wins in 2012 sees them go into the reverse fixtures with a four point advantage.
They travel to Belgrade on 25th May where they can expect an uncompromising reception from the locals. Having edged Serbia by a point in Naro-Fominsk last September, long-serving player-coach Eduard Ososkov knows that his preparation must leave nothing to chance.
Vereya win Russian Rugby League 9s as domestic season commences

The Russian domestic season got underway in the Moscow Region with men’s, women’s and colleges 9-a-side tournaments. Vereya Bears won the eight-team men’s competition, while southern university side Don State won the women’s and college’s Gagarin Cups.

The Russian's go into the second leg of this year’s European Shield undefeated after putting Serbia, Italy and Germany to the sword last year. There is high hopes in the Russian camp. One more win and they take the series and bring home the European Shield.
With the Rugby League European Shield fast approaching the Russian's could be running out against Serbia on the 25th of May in nothing more than thermal underwear if a kit sponsor isn't found soon.

The have been fighting to have rugby league re-registered with the Russian Ministry of sport. Support form the outside world is also limited due to the nature of international rugby league.
