Rugby League development in the Philippines is on the move

Close to a year from the day that Rugby League the “Greatest Game of All”, was introduced to the Seafaring cadets of Wärtsilä Subic Inc. back on the 14th of April 2012, when Philippines National Rugby League (PNRL) board members Rick Hartley, Tony Shibley and Cobi De Leon conducted their first clinic with the cadets of the Finland based company. They have moved on from touch football to full contact Rugby League training!

It didn’t take long for Philippines National Rugby League (PNRL) board member Tom Simpson to start Rugby League development in the Philippines after retiring to the province of Zambales with his family last March.
Tom has linked up with another PNRL board member David Perry to bring Rugby League to the province, North of Manila.
Philippines Rugby League lend a helping hand

The first thing on PAL Tamaraw Richard Goodwin’s mind, a primary school teacher at Kambora Public School in Davidson, when he returned from last October’s Rugby league International tours of Thailand and the Philippines; was how to help the orphans at Nayon ng Kabataan orphanage in Mandaluyong city that he visited. So last November he started a fundraising drive for the orphanage at his school.

The Philippines National Rugby League (PNRL), winning the Asian Cup, on the 21st October against the Thailand Rugby League, did not signal the end of the tour for the PAL Tamaraws. It signalled a new stage of the tour, one as important as winning the silver wear. Which was to promote Rugby League in the Philippines and start the all important work of grass roots development of the "Greatest Game of All".

Rugby League history was created at the Royal Thai Police Stadium in Bangkok on the 21st October 2012, with the Philippines PAL Tamaraws and the Thailand Stars playing for the inaugural Asian cup trophy in the first ever Rugby League international being played in Asia!
