The Federazione Italiana RFL (FIRFL) look set to create international rugby league history after announcing their Italia Azzurri XIII National Team will play their first International against a ‘Rest of the World’ team named the Barbarian Warriors Rugby League.

Using their inaugural appearance in this autumn’s Rugby League World Cup as a springboard, the Federazione Italiana Rugby League is determined to ensure further growth in all areas of the sport.
In addition to an expanded senior men’s competition – which will see 12 teams play in three regions, four of them newcomers - and increased youth activity, FIRL is also restarting women’s rugby league.
Newcomers set for expanded Italian rugby league championship

Three more new clubs are scheduled to start the Italian domestic season, which is officially launched at the end of May in Milan.
The structure will see four teams in three conferences – North West, North East and Central – with the three leading sides in each conference and the best runner up overall contesting the semi finals.

Italy now have 22 qualified rugby league coaches

On the 4th May 2013, another 13 newly qualified rugby league coaches are present in Italy.
FIRL, concluded the second official coaching course in the history of Italian rugby league since the revival of the sport in Italy in 1995.
The course took place over two weekends, from April 27, 2013 until May 4, and was run by FIRL's, RLEF qualified tutors who trained and prepared 13 new coaches in line with RLEF's European standards.
