History - Hawaii is another location where rugby league is starting up. It's not a nation as such but will contribute to the United States national rugby league team.
In early 2009 Hawaii were unranked in world rankings but were awarded official observer status by the Rugby League International Federation.
In mid 2009 the Hawaii Rugby League Football Association was formed with the goal of getting rugby league up and running in Hawaii. Classed as another rugby league state of the United States they hope to tap into the Polynesian community and down the track provide players for the United States National team. The Hawaii Rugby League Football Association will be looking to kick-off a 4 team competition in 2010 on the island of Oahu.
In July 2010 another attempt was made by Maui Rugby Org include rugby league as an option for players. They are now teaching league but it is still unclear if any real organised competition is taking place..
The recent success of the Rugby League World Cup will provide further funds to develop the sport throughout the world. The Rugby League International Federation (RLIF) will now have more funds to invest in development officers and continue assisting rugby league's growth. With the right support many more locations including Hawaii could possibly contribute to the success of the United States national team as they prepare for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup qualifiers.
Dear Readers, If you have first hand knowledge of the current Rugby League situation in Hawaii we would love to hear from you.
