Tuks and Brakpan breeze through to Rhino Cup Final
Tony Munro - 1/2/2012
Defending premiers, University of Pretoria-Tuks, will meet Brakpan Bears in the final of the 2012 Rhino Cup, after both teams comfortably won their semi-finals last Saturday.
There were 21 tries scored in the two matches, the Bears posting eight in their 40 to 10 win over Middlesburg Tigers, while Tuks ran in seven in their 40-18 defeat of the Bloemfontein Roosters.
There were no other details available about the matches.
The Fanie-Bredenhann coached Tuks are arguably favourites for this Saturday's title decider, enjoying home advantage at the Tuks Groenkoof Campus ground at the University of Pretoria.
It may be a double celebration for Tuks, whose Seconds team qualified for the Protea Cup Final after edging out the St.Helens Vultures 36-34 in a 13 try thriller.
The other Protea Cup semi-final was just as free-flowing and dramatic, the Kungwini Scorpions pipping the Vaal Vikings 34-32, as both teams scored six tries, with Scorpions' goal-kicking the difference.
This Saturday will mark the end of the 2011-2012 South African season with the SARL stating the inter-provincial competition will not be held.
